Hipster Heaven
We’re in Portland for Jen’s cousin’s wedding this weekend. I dragged her to Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library, despite the fact that she doesn’t really like whiskey.
It was great. Huge selection, very knowledgeable bartenders who were happy to help make selections, and a great vibe overall.
Travel
Up until 1am packing…up again at 4am to load the car. Out the door with the girls up and dressed at 5:15. Parked at a hotel and caught the 6am shuttle to the airport. Security line was short, but TSA Pre was still worth it. No shoes off, laptop stayed in the bag…we just breezed through.
Now we’re all tired, but excited to see grandma/grandpa.

I put this together with all my photos from Australia. Google Photos is great. Most of the pictures are from Lone Pine Sanctuary
Home
I made it home late last night without any issues. The jet lag isn’t too terrible, I’m just drained…but I managed to get some sleep last night, so I should be fine.
Here’s a short list of things I’m happy to be home for:
- Wife and kids (tied for first)
- Chemex
- Large computer monitors
- My chillow
Tangalooma Sunset
Google auto-stylized this photo for me. Beautiful sunset at the Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island yesterday. It was a great day trip to wrap up our Brisbane adventure. At the moment I’m at LAX waiting for my last flight to actually get home tonight.
Fun fact: my phone likes to auto correct Tangalooma to Pantaloons.
On my way home
Finally heading home after an epic trip. At the moment I’m sitting in the Auckland airport waiting for my flight to LAX to board. 17 hours of flight time left, plus a 3.5hr layover in LA.
On the flight from Brisbane I watched Vacation, the weird 2015 sequel to the 1983 classic of the same name. It was terrible. The only worthwhile moments were when they referenced the original.
Better than Krispies
Today was my last day in Australia, and I spent it out at the Tangalooma resort on Moreton island. I rode a toboggan down a sand dune, rode a fat-tired bike on the beach, and fed a wild dolphin named Tangles a fish directly from my hand. But instead of any of that, I’m choosing to share with you a picture of some cereal in the resort’s convenience store.
Tomorrow morning I fly out, and I get back to the east coast in the middle of the night on Sunday (into Monday). It’s been a ridiculously amazing trip, but I can’t wait to be home. I’ll try to get a consolidated photo album up soon with better pictures.
Funky Hotel
The work part of my trip is over, and we said goodbye to the AirBnB this morning. But I’m staying a couple extra days to do some more touristy stuff (tomorrow I’m feeding dolphins!), so I moved into a hotel today. I picked it because it had decent reviews, and wasn’t too expensive, and it looks great! Tons of funky art all over (above you can see the wall of my room). The bed, window, and mirrors all have neon lights around them too, and the window shades are remote-controlled, which gives everything a very futuristic feel. I tried to get a picture, but it’s too dark with the main lights off.
Just another day in Brisbane
Today was an amazing day. I hiked a mountain, pet a koala, fed a kangaroo, and meditated in a Nepalese temple. The only thing that would’ve made it better is if my family could’ve been here (although having the kids here would make meditation impossible). That said, I have an amazing team and I’m thrilled to have been able to spend this time with them.
