Pan Fried Pork Chops

I usually try to restart the urge to share pictures of my food, but this is just too gorgeous and delicious.  I pan fried a couple of thick pork chops in ghee with a Creole seasoning, paired with a spinach arrugula salad with gorgonzola and ranch dressing.

This is another advantage of working from home…I couldn’t have brought raw pork into the office and tried to cook it there.

Simple Pleasures

I love the rare mornings when both girls sleep in (and yes, 7am counts as sleeping in).  It’s so nice being able to relax and make/eat breakfast in peace.

Sleepy Superhero

Right now I’m sitting in the car with this adorable Wonder Girl.  She had a slight allergic reaction to raw brownie dough* this morning (licking the spoon), so we gave her some benadryl.  Then at her regularly scheduled nap time we came over to a friends house for a Zoolander 2 party, and of course she fell asleep in the car.   So I’m sitting with her while Jen and Valentina are inside.  I’ll get her up before too long, but at least it’s given me a chance to catch up on my Skoodle Dooting.

* She’s had topical reactions to eggs before, so it could be because of that.  The brownie mix also said it’s processed on equipment that also handles tree nuts, so it could be the cashew connection.  Now that we’re not traveling we can hopefully get her in to see an allergist this week to try and get a better picture of what’s going on.

The Clarks

Last night we got a babysitter and went to see The Clarks way out in Leesburg.  It was a good show, although it reinforced the fact that I’m old and get tired easily.  The hour drive back home at midnight was fun.

A Rough Few Days

Sunday afternoon we went over to a friend’s house for a Super Bowl party.  Everyone was having a good time, and the kids were really loving a new space to run around in.  But then out of nowhere Valentina just threw up on the floor, and then again all down the front of my shirt.  She was completely unphased by it, and didn’t get upset at all.

The next day we planned on keeping her home from school, but ended up keeping both of them.  Gia ate a cashew for the first time, and had a bad allergic reaction.  No problems breathing, but she was covered in hives.  I got to spend a fun two hours in the doctor’s office, and now I’m the proud new owner of an Epipen.  Meanwhile Jen was home with Valentina, who was still throwing up, but perfectly happy.

That night (Monday night) Jen and I both woke up to realize we’d caught Valentina’s Revenge, and were getting sick in terribly unpleasant ways.  Gia made it through the night without throwing up, but she started first thing Tuesday morning.  So now Valentina’s the only one in the family who isn’t sick.  It was a rough day, but we all made it through, and everyone felt better to varying degrees by the end of the day.

Gia woke up in the night and threw up a couple more times, but that was the last of it.  Once Wednesday morning rolled around everyone seems to be back to 100%, or close enough to it.  Valentina went into daycare, and Gia stayed home just in case, but she seems fine.

Since no post feels complete without a picture, here’s an animation of Valentina trying a lemon at a restaurant on Saturday.  Maybe that’s why she got sick:

Torrey Pines (Beach + Hiking)

We went to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve this afternoon and went hiking down the cliffs to the beach.  It was really cool, with some great views.  Although the more impressive thing may have been the figher jets and Osprey helicopters that were flying overhead.  They must have been doing training exercises.  I didn’t get any good pictures of them with my phone, but here are a few of the scenery:

Free Fruit

There are a few citrus trees on the property at the AirBnB that we’re staying at, which have some amazing fruits growing on them.

So delicious.
