City Beach
Brisbane has an artificial beach in the middle of the city!
Powerhouse
Cool building down on the river where we had lunch the other day.
First Souvenir
I spilled coffee on my shirt in the New Zealand airport, so I got to pick up my first souvenir. It’s a cool shirt, and it fits really well. Turns out my ideal t-shirt size is a New Zealand Small.
Uh oh
Because my 65 day posting streak on this site I’d so important, I’ve created this scheduled post in case I can’t get internet right away in New Zealand or Australia.
Australia Bound
I spent 3 hours on the phone with various airlines and travel agents last night and didn’t get anywhere, so I’m still on my originally scheduled flight through Houston today. But luckily the forecast looks decent for this evening when I get there, so it shouldn’t be a problem. HOPEFULLY.
Travel
I’ve been working for Automattic for just over 9 months, and I’ve had the opportunity for some great work trips. I’ve been to Park City (UT), San Diego (CA), and Brighton (UK). But the biggest trip yet is coming up tomorrow, when I fly to Brisbane (AU) to meet up with my team (one of whom lives there).
It’s going to be a great trip, and I’m really looking forward to it. But I’m also dreading being away from my family for so long. It’s going to be 10 whole days, spanning two weekends. We looked into bringing them along on either end of the trip, but there just wasn’t a realistic way to make work.
That is, assuming I make it. Right now I’m on hold with United trying to reschedule my flight. The original flight is still “on time”, but it’s flying through Houston where there’s massive flooding. They sent me an alert saying they’re waiving all change fees, so I’d rather get on top of it and change things now. But I’m sure everyone else flying through Houston in the next couple days is having the same thought. The worst that can happen is adventures.
Still so hot
I wrote yesterday that it was too hot in my home office, so today I worked elsewhere. I did my usual coffee shop -> library -> Panera rotation, but it was such a nice day out I sat outside at Panera. It was great while there was a nice breeze, but that died down about an hour ago. So now it’s just as hot as it would’ve been at home.
But the salad here was better than the one I would’ve made at home, so it’s still a net positive.
So hot
I work from home, and my office is in the loft of my townhouse. As with most townhouses, mine is tall and skinny, shaped much like a chimney, so all the hot air rises and accumulates at the top.
The top line on the display above is the current temperature up here…87°F. I apologize for the glare.
I think I’m going to spend a lot of time working from libraries and coffee shops this summer.
Little Biker
She’s doesn’t quite have the hang of peddling yet, but she’s getting there.
